Efficient Computer Usage: Part 1 – QuickLaunch icons in your browser

Posted by on May 18, 2010 - 06:58 AM

Today I am going to show you how you can get to the sites that you visit often in one easy click. This can be done in every modern web browser on your PC or Mac whether it be Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari or something else. Every second of your busy day counts. No fumbling around in an overcrowded bookmarks section to get to Hotmail or your internet banking.

Check out these three simple steps and start making the most of the time you spend in front of the computer.

Step 1 - Drag and Drop

Drag and drop the icon in the address bar into the link area of your browser toolbar.

Step 2 - Remove the name

Remove the text by right-clicking on the new icon you have dragged down, and then click on properties.
Remove the text and click save.

Step 3 -Organise

Move the icon where you would like it to sit on your toolbar. You can use separators to group similar pages.

If you don’t recognise the pages just by their icon straight away, don’t worry, simply hover your mouse over the icon and it will give you the URL of the page. Because they are always there you will get to know them pretty quickly.

As you’ve probably noticed, if the site you want to drag has no nice little icon (it’s called a favicon) then you will get a generic icon. If you only have a couple of these you might be able to get away with it if you group them logically, but not too many.
